Our History

The Foundations of Dura Beds

The story of Dura Beds is a classic tale of dedication and rapid growth, rooted entirely in West Yorkshire. It all began on March 4th, 1998, when two close friends obtained the keys to a modest 12,000 square foot rented premise in Liversedge. Just six weeks later, Dura Beds was officially formed, with the two owners and one additional operative—who remains a vital part of the company today—commencing the work of manufacturing quality mattresses.

The founders built the business on a simple yet powerful ethos: hard work, responsiveness to customer needs, and exceptional service. This foundation quickly drove success, leading to an inevitable outcome—outgrowing their first home in just two short years.

Rapid Expansion and Strategic Growth

The early 2000s marked a period of aggressive, strategic expansion:

2001:

Dura Beds purchased and moved into a new, larger location in Heckmondwike, spanning over 50,000 square feet. To fuel further growth, the partners heavily invested in recruiting some of the industry's best professionals across Sales, Marketing, and Production.

2006:

The company continued to flourish, dramatically increasing its turnover and employing around 60 people.

2007:

Having outgrown yet another premises, Dura Beds made its final strategic move to the current location: a substantial factory comprising over 125,000 square feet on Grange Road, Batley

Looking to the Future

The business ethos—offering well-made, commercial products at competitive prices—continues to drive our momentum, solidifying our position as one of the fastest-growing bed businesses in the UK.

Our future plans reflect our commitment to scale and innovation:

  • We recently acquired a large, purpose-built mattress manufacturing plant, formerly owned by the Silentnight Group, on a nearby site. This 210,000 square foot facility will become our new home.

  • In the meantime, we are expanding our current site by 10,000 square feet to develop new office space and a purpose-built showroom.

We continue to grow, guided by the same principles of hard work and customer focus that started in that small 12,000 square foot workshop in 1998.
